| By its very nature, the logistics business has always necessitated time-consuming, manual processes for fulfilling orders and a lot of paperwork. Typically, warehouse workers collect a ‘pick list’ from the office. Then, operating a reach truck or forklift, they head into a huge warehouse to locate the listed items, stored on pallets. The whole process is prone to human error such as taking wrong directions, picking the wrong orders, or inaccuracies when logging items by hand. Plus, it takes two hands to operate the machinery – so workers are unable to read paper-based instructions at the same time. |
| Because of all of these time-consuming and costly inefficiencies, Singapore-based ST Logistics and MGG Software got together to create a ground-breaking logistics system – based on Epson’s innovative Augmented Reality (AR) smart glasses technology. The partnership resulted in a successful prototype Proof-of-concept (POC) application to deliver Augmented Reality through the Epson Moverio Pro BT-2000 Smart Headset. It provides an integrated workflow and system, allowing warehouse workers to perform tasks efficiently and seamlessly. |
Flexible, mobile, hands-free system
Warehouse operators can simply put on the smart glasses or headset, and activate the picking process with head movements – thanks to a gyroscope sensor. The pick list is sent wirelessly to the headset. On the headset display, the operator sees text instructions and AR cues guiding the way to the pallets, using indoor positioning and navigational information.
Once located, the item’s barcode is scanned by the headset’s built-in camera– instantly updating the warehouse’s computer management system. For the worker’s convenience, the screen can simply be flipped upwards, without the need to remove the headset. Comfortable to wear, easy to use, and offering good low-light performance – the system helps users to carry out tasks with ease.
With everything received, displayed and controlled via the application within the Epson Moverio Pro BT-2000 , the whole logistical process is smarter, more productive, and more efficient – eliminating manual paperwork, and minimising human errors.
